Accessibility and Physical Requirements

As much as we strive to be an inclusive game, there are some limitations to our main site and the event that makes it inaccessible to some people. We hope to clearly illustrate those limitations here:

  • Our main site is not reasonably wheelchair accessible. While it is legally considered a ‘wheelchair accessible’ site, the area to travel to avoid stairs is outdoors and uneven, and might be covered in ice and snow.

  • This is a cold-weather, outdoor game. While we have heated lodges, kitchens, and plenty of places to warm up, players are expected to bring gear to keep themselves warm, dry, and safe. They are also expected to safely play in or avoid spaces that might be slippery or icy.

  • There will be a lack of light. To keep the cold winter immersion, building lights will not be turned on in in-character spaces during the night, excluding emergency exit signs. While players can bring their own genre lights, players need to expect being in dark, hard to navigate spaces.

  • You must be able to take care of yourself, or have a support person accompanying you. You are able to remove yourself from play at any time for any reason, no questions asked.

Lines, Veils, and Highlights

Traditionally Lines, Veils and Highlights are decided on collectively by the players in a TTRPG before the game starts. However in LARP, players fluctuate as games run, so here are the themes we are currently working within.

Lines

These are things that do not exist in the setting, implied or otherwise. We will not feature or allude to these things in any way.

  • Sexual Assault and Harassment

Veils

These are things that exist in the setting, but will not be directly explored or experienced during play. They might be alluded to, but in-depth discussion of the topic must always be off-screen or in closed, private scenes where everyone present consents.

  • Sexual themes

  • Real world discrimination, such as racism, transphobia, transmisogyny, homophobia, sexism, and ableism. The intent of this is to allow players who have experienced these injustices in the real world to make characters that are influenced by their own lifelong, lived experiences, and never to play out real world discrimination in our game space. Narrative agency towards these kinds of themes goes entirely towards the players who have these lived experiences. Failure to give marginalized players agency and prioritize their safety and comfort will result in removal from the game.

Highlights

These are themes that we are putting center screen that might be troubling for players. This is essentially our content warning list.

  • Graphic violence, murder, and death

  • Medical procedures, body horror, and dysmorphia

  • Apocalyptic scenarios, plagues

  • Setting-specific classism and ableism

  • Religious guilt, persecution, and trauma

  • Sensory deprivation, including poorly lit areas

  • Social alienation, isolation, and exclusion

  • Sickness and loss of ability; disability

  • Class-based violence, exploitation, and social unrest

  • Natural disasters and severe weather; simulated death by exposure

  • Food insecurity and starvation

  • Child neglect, abuse, and death

Community Safety

Restharrow aims to be an immersive theater experience that explores themes such as disability, classism, and environmental stewardship in a creative and respectful community setting. The following is a summary of our Community Statement.

Core Principles
  • Age Requirement: Participants must be 19+ due to mature themes.

  • Anti-Discrimination: Discrimination, harassment, or bullying of any kind is not tolerated. In-game narratives addressing discrimination (e.g., ableism) must be handled with respect and sensitivity, prioritizing marginalized players' experiences.

  • Cultural Sensitivity: Cultural appropriation is prohibited. Players must seek guidance or avoid elements from cultures they are not part of, ensuring respectful representation.

Community Values
  • Accountability: Members should own their mistakes, seek to repair harm caused, and commit to learning and growing.

  • Consent: Explicit affirmative consent is required for all interactions. Consent can be withdrawn at any time.

  • Self-Care: Players can opt out of activities at any time for personal well-being. Participants are responsible for their self-care or must bring a support person if needed.
